God expects us to live a certain way…part 1
Scripture: Psalm 119:1-8
(If you have a copy of The Message, please read that translation for this passage today. Or you can go to www.youversion.com and type in the verses, then select The Message as a translation.)
You’ve heard the phrases: “Don’t stray from the path…Keep close to the path…Stick to the way…” Phrases meant to keep us safe, out of harm’s way. That is exactly what this Psalm is talking about in regard to God’s Word.
It starts out with a blessing – “You’re blessed when you stay on course.” As folks who live in an outdoor community, we would say to that “Duh!”
We know it’s the right and safe thing to do, but do we always, without fail follow that advice? Don’t we sometimes wander off the path just a little to see what’s out there? Aren’t we a curious people who ‘like to learn’ stuff?
When it comes to the Bible, we are not to stray from it at all. “You, God, prescribed the right way to live; now You expect us to live it.”
I sometimes get tired of people giving me excuses when they get caught wandering, realizing that their hope and help was always at the end of their fingers – in the Bible.
How about we start today by being in the Word before our day gets started. Look at the last verse of this passage for today, verse 8.
Pray that as a prayer, committing to God to be in His Word throughout this study. Commit to memorizing at least 5 verses throughout this time (that equates to about 1 a week). You pick the verses.
I would encourage you to post your favorite verse on one of the blog days on my page, www.leadingartists.blogspot.com so we can celebrate with you!
